UEA Assassins Society
If you want to kill your friends for fame and fortune, then the Assassins society is for you! Using Nerf blasters, home-made weapons, or any other safe, fun method you can think of, we run two week-long games across campus where the aim is to hunt down other members of the society and "eliminate" them. In addition to this, we run action packed minigames on Tuesdays, along with occasional socials and semesterly laser tag. We’re a relaxed and welcoming group to all play styles and abilities.
Weapons
We typically run Nerf weapons or similar things (like boomco for example) as they’re cheap and very effective. You don’t have to bring your own, we have an extensive arsenal belonging to the society, and we loan out blasters and darts for free during both the minigames and long games. There are other types of weapons that you can use, as well as modded nerf blasters, but these are normally “okayed” by the committee health and safety officer on a case-by-case basis, feel free to ask questions about any weapons you want to run over on our discord.
Games
We run a variety of game types at different events. Our week-long games take place across the whole of campus, where players can take down opponents in between lectures. Game modes include the likes of the classic Team Deathmatch, the momentum-based Warlords (your victims join your team on the following day), the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse, and the nail-biting Guild game. In these games, you can typically expect to join back in on the next day if you die, and you can identify the other players by looking for a green or yellow armband on their arm. In some games, rather than a team of players to take on, you'll be given a single target and their timetable with which to hunt them down. But watch out - another player will be hunting you too!
Our minigames take a more fast-paced form and usually happen on Saturday afternoons. We get out our bigger guns (and often lend them to newer members if we think you're outgunned) before engaging in call-of-duty-style nerf wars in the Blackdale School, outside the Ziggurats, or in Congregation Hall. We often head to the bar afterwards, and this is a great opportunity to properly meet and make friends with your fellow assassins!
Social Events
Although we used to attend Assassins Varsity (an assassins based competition with the other assassins societies across the UK) covid has made this difficult as many of the societies have closed. Instead, we plan to head to RHUL (royal holloway university of london) for an HvZ type game as the end of year event, although we will also plan to attend varsity if/when it restarts up again. Both events are tons of fun, and a great way to spend a weekend.
Due to covid, we began running online social events like Jackbox, Gartic Phone, Among Us and Alien Swarm Reactive Drop. We like to run these frequently on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7pm till late. We are also a community, and currently have people organizing DnD campaigns etc… within the group, so if you’re looking for a group to join for other social activities, Assassins is a good place to look.
We also frequently head over to both larp groups run by UEA Games society as they’re super friendly and are pretty similar to assassins, just that you use a sword rather than a gun, so if you’re also interested in those you’ll be able to attend whilst knowing a few friendly faces.
Further Information and Event Schedule
All details about our upcoming events can be found through our Discord group along with rules, and the occasional bounty for rewards: https://discord.gg/eQdSjxD3J7
We are currently unable to run events this autum semester due to the low number of committee members. We are looking for people to fill in missing roles, it is a rewarding experience and lookss good on CVs.
If you have any questions, please feel free to message any of the committee through their Facebook profiles, the official instagram page @ueaassassins, the committee member's instagram or directly email the society at ueaassassins@gmail.com.
