Performance side of Netball
Our club is made up of 9 competitive teams! Our BUCS Squad (1st, 2nd and 3rd team) are entered into the BUCS league and compete every Wednesday against other Universities and in the Conference Cup. They also play in a local league every other tuesday, where they have just had a promotion into division 2! Our 4s also play in an indoor local league every other tuesday. The 5th team play in a new exciting feeder league on Tuesdays, the 6th teams play outside in another local league every Monday night and the 7th and 8th teams play in turn, outdoors, on a Thursday night! Our Development Squad members have the choice to either play competitively, by entering themselves into the Development League, or to choose to join socially and just have fun at training each week. Those who choose to join the Development League will be placed in a team and will play every other thursday night, outdoors, in a Intramural Sports League! There truely is a place for everyone.
Membership Costs
The cost of joining netball can sometimes be a shock to those who are new but we are very transparent with where the money goes and exactly what you are spending your fees on. If you have any questions on where the money is spent or why something costs what it does, please dont hesitate to ask us and we will happily explain it! The cost at the start of the year is a fixed cost and after making that payment, your membership will last for the entire year.
The Real Cost of Sport
The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.
This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.
When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.
For any specific questions or further information about a particular club, please contact the club directly or contact us at union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for more details about the project.
All the best,
Olivia Hunt
