UEA Sub Aqua is UEA’s own scuba diving, free diving and snorkelling club. We accept everybody, whether you're terrified of swimming, or have been diving for years - we want to allow you to reach new depths.
Members are offered the chance to take part in try-dives, regular pool sessions, or even complete a course with either PADI or BSAC. If you're looking to give Scuba diving a go, start with us!
Many are put off scuba diving by the costs. While we cannot deny it can be expensive, we can help you get a number of discounts and even ask your school to give you a grant. While it can still be expensive, it's unlikely you'll find a cheaper option even after you graduate.
This year, we plan on holding a barrage of socials to make up for lost time including regular sports nights; socials in and around Norwich such as pub crawls and bowling; more relaxing socials such as a movie and pizza nights; informative talks about diving (hopefully) with special guests and beach clean-ups too! We also hope to plan as many dive trips as possible, both day trips to local dive sites and longer trips in the UK and abroad. As well as this we are looking at expanding the snorkelling opportunities that the club has to offer, allowing it to be more inclusive and just as fun as diving. So Stay tuned to our socials to find out more!
So get involved... we can't wait to meet you!

The Real Cost of Sport
The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.
This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.
When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.
For any specific questions or further information about a particular club, please contact the club directly or contact us at union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for more details about the project.
All the best,
Olivia Hunt
