UEA GOLF
Welcome to the official golf club of UEA!
With the recent increase in golf's popularity following the Coronavirus pandemic, UEA Golf has become one of the university's fastest growing clubs with membership numbers rising year on year! Weekly socials, BUCS matches, regular events and minigolf tournaments are a fragment of all that we have to offer this year, so there's plenty to look forward to. We have a variety of membership options available so everyone and anyone can be a part of our club. Whether you have played for years, took it up as a lockdown golfer, are a wizard at crazy golf, or have never even picked up a club in your life, we would love to have you in the club this year.
Membership:
We offer four different levels of membership at Bawburgh Golf Club, which is just a short drive from Campus with both a 9 and 18-hole golf course, a fully stocked golf shop, and exceptional practice facilities. There is an 18-hole membership for those looking to play most regularly; a 9-Hole membership for those looking to play on course but more casually; a half-year membership for students only staying at the univeristy for one semester, and a range membership for those looking to attend weekly socials and/or range sessions. All prices are listed above.
Training:
Open to all members, the club meets every Tuesday night outside the congregation hall at 6:30 pm for a driving range session held at Norwich Family Golf Centre. Lifts to the facility will be provided by current students (approx. 20min drive), where members of all abilities can practice both their long game under floodlit bays or their short game on the putting/chipping green. Weekly tuition and golfing advice will be provided by first team players to all who need it.
We will also be looking into group lessons for any student wishing to take up golf more seriously using the PGA-qualified professions at Bawburgh (depending on interest), and this can be extended to all players depending on demand.
Competition:
For those who take golf more seriosuly and are looking to engage in competitive golf, the university have a BUCS golf team that compete in the Midlands League 2. BUCS is restarting on the 6th of October and we're looking forward to travelling the country competing against other Universities. BUCS is an excellent opportunity to play new golf courses and represent the university in a prestigious sport.
Matches take place on wednesdays and we will be holding trials very soon to build our team. We do not select players based on handicap but rather on form so if you are interested in being part of team, look out on our instagram and come have a go - you might surprise yourself!

The Real Cost of Sport
The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.
This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.
When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.
For any specific questions or further information about a particular club, please contact the club directly or contact us at union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for more details about the project.
All the best,
Olivia Hunt
