Support Afghan Refugees
Published Thu 19 Aug 2021 10:50
We’re deeply concerned and saddened by the events unfolding in Afghanistan and our thoughts are with all Afghans, particularly women and girls.
Afghan refugees are in urgent need of support. We support the UK government's announcement of the Afghan Citizens' Resettlement Scheme as a first step, but believe that greater ambition is needed in the UK, Europe and the US to provide assistance to people fleeing conflict and oppression.
We encourage everyone to take what action is available to them. You can contact your local MP and ask them to lobby the government for greater action; or contribute directly to charities supporting asylum seekers and refugees, including Refugee Council, the Red Cross and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
If you are a student and have been affected by the situation in Afghanistan, you can contact the uea(su) Advice team or UEA Student Services (studentlife.managers@uea.ac.uk) for support.
