Trustee Board appoints Yinbo Yu as the new Chair
We are delighted to announce that, following a comprehensive external recruitment process, Yinbo Yu has been appointed as the inaugural external Chair of the Trustee Board at the UEA Students’ Union (uea(su)).
Yinbo began his journey at UEA as an international student, where he studied for a BSc in Economics. Through his active involvement in societies and volunteering, he was elected as the inaugural Activities and Opportunities Officer for two terms and subsequently as the International Students’ Officer at the National Union of Students.
Yinbo’s professional background is in Higher Education policy and public affairs. He currently leads the Engagement and Partnerships team at the UK Council for International Student Affairs. With extensive experience on various Boards and governing bodies, Yinbo recently completed his term as a Lay Trustee at Guild of Students, University of Birmingham.
Commenting on his appointment, Yinbo said:
‘I am delighted to return and take on the role as the Chair of the Trustee Board. As a former international student who went through migration to isolation, uea(su) was the first place where my voice was heard and valued. It allowed me to explore my identity, unleash my potential, and drive positive impact for more students like me.
With many challenges and opportunities ahead, I am keen to work with students and colleagues to make the Board more engaging, robust and transparent, ensuring that student interests are protected, and their voices are heard.’
Yinbo also acknowledged the contribution of the outgoing Interim Chair, Nathan Wyatt. He said: ‘I’d like to thank Nathan for his unwavering commitment to the Board and the important role he has played in leading the uea(su).’
uea(su) Chief Executive Jumara Stone said: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Yinbo back to uea(su) as the Chair of our Trustee Board. Yinbo’s deep connection to UEA and extensive experience in student representation and advocacy make him an outstanding choice to guide uea(su) into this new chapter. We look forward to his guidance in strengthening our governance and ensuring the Union continues to deliver for all students.’
The interim Chair of the Trustee Board Nathan Wyatt added: ‘It has been an honour to serve as the Interim Chair of the Trustee Board. I am confident that Yinbo’s appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for uea(su). His passion for student advocacy and his strategic vision will drive our mission forward, ensuring that we continue to support and empower all students.’
