The quick rundown:

Who? DMTS with Tom Francis, Norwich-based theatre-maker, clown, youth worker, educator, and theatre nerd.

What? A 3 hour workshop on the basics of theatrical clowning and how the skills can be applied to different performance contexts.

When? 18:00-21:00 on Thursday 1st May. There will be a short break at 20:00 and people are welcome to leave then if they cannot stay till 21:00, but Tom recommends that 3 hours is needed to get a good introduction to the content.

Where? On campus, room TBC

Why? This event isn't just for people who want to be clowns--it is for anyone who wants to develop their comedy performance, spontaneity, etc.

 

The facilitator: Tom is an actor, theatre maker, clown, youth worker, role-player, educator and all-round theatre nerd who lives in Norwich. He has trained extensively in clown, improvisation and devising with teachers including Angela De Castro, Avner Eisenberg and Fraser Hooper. As well as independent theatre he has worked in a variety of applied areas of theatre including youth and community work, museums, schools and simulation training.

The workshop: This short workshop will provide a basic introduction to the principles of theatrical clowning, using principles of spontaneity, connection and playfulness to explore your inner clown persona and use these principles in a variety of performance contexts.
