Queer History Conference

Welcome to the Queer History Conference! This event is an afternoon to spotlight and celebrate the lives of queer people throughout history. We will have four guest speakers each speaking on different areas of queer history, as well as a break during which complimentary food and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.
Doors will open for the Queer History Conference at 12:30 on Saturday 15th Feburary, and we'll get started at 1pm, with a break from 3:10pm - 3:50pm. The event will end at 6pm. Tickets are £3, and the event will take place in Bookable Room 6 and Dorothy's in the Student Union Building at UEA. Our guest speakers:
Mike Jackson: Secretary and Founding Member of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, a queer solidarity group that suported striking miners in the 1980s. You may have seen a depiction of these events in the 2014 film Pride. Mike will be talking about his experience growing up as a working class gay kid in Accrington, LGBT life in London in the 1980s, LGSM and the Miner's strike as well as its impact on the 1985 Labour Conference and TUC motions, and life as an activist in the present day.
Dr. Isabell Dahms: A researcher and lecturer at Exeter University, Dr. Dahms's research interests include queer municipal and activist histories and the relationship of queerness to public and domestic spaces in the UK. She will be speaking about her current research into dyke cruising histories in the 1980s and 1990s in London.
