Blickling Estate Walk

Sunday 17 November 2024, 10am - 5pm

Norwich Bus Station, Stand N

The Blickling Estate Walk is another society favourite! We start in Aylsham, an unspoilt market town on the River Bure. There will be an opportunity to go to Co-op or the local bakery, which I highly recommend! From there we take a section of the Weaver's Way, to enter the Blickling Estate. We will walk past Blickling Hall (but unfortunately will not go inside). This impressive building is built on the foundations of the house where Anne Boleyn was born, before the Boleyn family relocated to Hever Castle. Anne Boleyn is remembered as being Henry VIII's second wife, who was famously beheaded at the Tower of London in 1536.

This grisly history is the backdrop for a spectacular walk through the estate that encompasses the lake, expansive parkland and charming country lanes. The walk then continues through the local woodland, which is currently showing a spectacular autumnal display. We conclude back in Aylsham, where there may be time to have a quick pint or non-alcholic drink at the local pub whilst waiting for the bus (incidentally, the pub is known as the location where Admiral Lord Nelson used to dance at local assemblies!)
