Blakeney to Wells-next-the-sea Coach trip

Sunday 03 November 2024, 9am - 5pm

UEA Megabus Stop

Get ready for our first coach trip of the year! We're off to the beautiful Blakeney, home to a famous seal colony—so keep your eyes peeled, you might just spot one! (Although, I will add that the seals are best seen from a boat and we are not quite in pupping season yet). 🌊🦭 We'll be setting off along a stretch of the Norfolk Coast Path, which allows access to a haven for birdwatchers, with plenty of opportunity to spot some unique and rare species.

This beautiful 8-mile walk showcases the very best of Norfolk’s coastline, with its expansive salt marshes and wind-swept dunes. The path switches between a wide, easy boardwalk and muddy tracks, making this a more exciting and technical walk. Our journey ends in the quaint seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea, where we’ll finish down by the quay. While the coffee shops may have closed, the local chippy will still be serving up delicious fish and chips—perfect for a well-earned treat by the water (if we have time, that is).

Important information:

Where: UEA Megabus stop (this is further up from the main bus stop towards the roundabout that says University of East Anglia on it).

Time: 9 am (please be on time - we need to leave promptly and we won't be able to wait for anyone). We are aiming to return to UEA by 5 pm but this may vary.

Length and terrain: 8 miles with muddy terrain.

What to bring: walking boots with thick socks (very much recommended on this walk), lunch, water, waterproofs (coat and trousers if you have them), hat, scarf and gloves. Bring layers that can be taken on and off.

Things to avoid wearing: jeans (once they get wet, they stay wet, so I recommend wearing sports leggings or trousers that will dry quicker), canvas trainers or high heels (these will not keep your feet dry and salt marsh is notorious for being boggy), shoulder bags (after a few hours these become uncomfortable, I recommend a rucksack instead).
